Hey Westoplexians,

It's been a big week in Fort Worth - and not in a "check your news app and stress" kind of way. More like a "our city is genuinely leveling up and I'm here for it" kind of way.

Here's what caught my eye this week.

Your Sam's Club on Bryant Irvin Just Got a $2 Million Upgrade

If you've noticed some changes at Sam's Club on Bryant Irvin Road, you're not imagining it. The 132,000-square-foot store wrapped up a major remodel that touched pretty much everything - new restrooms, new break rooms, a dedicated club pick-up space, a health and wellness area, updated registers, and upgraded lighting and fire suppression throughout.

$2 million renovation · completed Aug. 2025

The work is part of Sam's Club's nationwide push to modernize all 600 of its locations. The model they're building toward? A "register-free shopping experience," similar to a flagship store that reopened in Grapevine after tornado damage. The idea is that members scan items with Scan & Go on their phone and walk out without waiting in a checkout line. Member specialists will be stationed near the entrance to help anyone who's new to the process.

So if you haven't been in lately, it might be worth swinging by - it's a pretty different feel from what the store looked like even a year ago.

Six Flags is About to Open the Wildest Roller Coaster on the Planet - Right Here in Arlington

The coaster community has been buzzing about this one for months, and it's almost here. Six Flags Over Texas is putting the finishing touches on Tormenta Rampaging Run, a brand-new ride that will be the first-ever "giga dive coaster" in the world. That's not marketing fluff - it's a legitimate new category of roller coaster, and it's going up in Arlington.

309 ft tall · 87 mph · 4,199 ft of track · 6 world records

The coaster entered its testing phase on May 27th, with Six Flags sharing footage of trains running the full track for the first time. The ride hits 309 feet before a beyond-vertical 95-degree drop - meaning it leans past straight-down - and reaches speeds of 87 mph across nearly 4,200 feet of track. It'll also feature the tallest vertical loop (179 feet) and the highest Immelmann inversion (218 feet) of any coaster ever built.

The whole thing is themed around the Spanish tradition of the Running of the Bulls, and it anchors a newly redesigned section of the park called Rancho de la Tormenta, complete with a new restaurant, Cocina Abuela. The ride replaces the old La Vibora coaster, which closed in 2024.

No official opening date has been announced yet, but it's expected to open this summer as part of Six Flags' 65th anniversary celebration. Keep an eye on the park's social media they've been active with updates under the hashtag #DropTheGate.

Bluejack Ranch is Getting Close - and the Back Nine is Almost Ready to Play

The big Tiger Woods golf development out at 5100 Kelly Road in Aledo is picking up steam heading into summer. According to J.J. Henry - the Fort Worth-based PGA Tour pro who's been a driving force behind this project - holes 10 through 18 on the back nine are basically done, with crews already rolling, cutting, and grassing. The goal is to have the full course open by Labor Day 2026.

914 acres · 600+ home lots · Tiger Woods / TGR Design

If you haven't been following this one: Bluejack Ranch is a 914-acre gated community being built just southwest of Fort Worth. It's centered on an 18-hole championship course that Woods is designing in collaboration with Beau Welling, and it's the second Bluejack community after the well-regarded Bluejack National near Houston. The Ranch Club facility finished construction earlier this year, and the course has been the main focus since.

The site has some serious topography - some holes have 40 to 80 feet of elevation change - which makes it pretty different from a typical flat DFW layout. The development team has also noted a Taylor Sheridan effect: the popularity of shows like Yellowstone has boosted interest in the ranch-lifestyle appeal of the project, which doesn't hurt when you're trying to sell 600 home lots in Parker County.

Parker County Commissioner Mike Hale has flagged that Kelly Road is already being widened as part of a $130 million transportation bond voters approved - so the infrastructure is at least trying to keep up with the growth coming this way.

The World Cup Kicks Off Thursday - Here's What You Need to Know

It's finally here. The 2026 FIFA World Cup opens this Thursday, June 11th, with Mexico taking on South Africa in Mexico City. For the first time ever, 48 teams are competing across three host nations - the U.S., Canada, and Mexico - in what's shaping up to be the biggest World Cup in history with 104 total matches.

June 11 – July 19 · USA, Canada & Mexico · 48 teams · 104 matches

The U.S. men's team opens on June 12th against Paraguay in Los Angeles, then faces Australia in Seattle on June 19th before finishing group play against Türkiye on June 25th, also in LA. The final is set for July 19th at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

A few storylines worth watching heading in: defending European champion Spain is the tournament favorite. Lionel Messi is confirmed to play for Argentina, though his manager isn't sure yet how many minutes he'll get. The Netherlands suffered a blow with defender Jurriën Timber being ruled out due to a groin injury. And Iran's participation has been one of the more politically charged storylines of the buildup, with many Iranians feeling conflicted about whether to support or oppose their national team.

There's been plenty of off-field drama too - concerns about visa restrictions affecting fans traveling to the U.S., frustration over high ticket prices, and the general political backdrop surrounding the host country. But once the matches start, all of that tends to fade pretty quickly. It's the World Cup.

That's the week in Fort Worth. As always, if you have questions about the market, want a free home value estimate, or just want to know what's happening in your neighborhood - I'm one reply away.

See you next week,
